So the long awaited summer season is finally here! As much as we all love a good fashion trend, let’s not forget the importance of comfort and quality in the meantime.

I’ve recently purchased some linen fabric clothing and I can’t tell you how comfortable and light it feels. I’ve always heard good things about linen, whether that be clothing, bedding or even curtains, but never got round to trying it out!

Below I’ve listed some key advantages of wearing linen clothing:

LONG LASTING

Linen clothing is a hard wearing fabric and therefore provides a long lasting usage for everyday wear. It can be washed at the recommended temperature as often as needed. DID YOU KNOW: The more you wash linen clothing the softer it becomes.

BREATHABLE

Like I mentioned above, linen is so light fitting so its perfect for those warmer days! As linen fibres are hollow they allow more airflow over your body than other materials. DID YOU KNOW: Those who wear linen clothes sweat 1,5 times less than those who choose clothes made from basic cotton.

HYPOALLERGENIC

Many people suffer from allergies, especially during the summer season. It has been said that certain types of fabrics often agitate their symptoms due to the fabrics allowing moisture to build up. Well with Linen this is not an issue! As you now know Linen is very breathable, it allows air to move around freely and therefore, releases moisture very fast. Now I’m not saying this is going to get rid of your allergies, but it definitely seems the safer option given the above evidence!!

COMFORTABLE

As you may have already guessed by now, linen is very comfortable given its breathable and lightweight attributes. like I said at the beginning of this blog, we must not forget the important of comfort. Being in the sun can sometimes be uncomfortable as it is, wouldn’t you rather be wearing something loose than tight fitting? yep, I thought so too.

FASHIONABLE

So I couldn’t not talk about the fashion related benefit to linen clothing now could I? Linen clothing has been around for what feels like forever, by the 1990’s it had become a summer holiday staple! whether its linen dresses, white paper bag trousers, linen shirts or shorts – Linen is such a staple wardrobe piece! It can sometimes be a tad on the expensive side, but given its long lasting aspects and its stylish aesthetic it’ll definitely be worth the £!!!

BUT WITH THE POSITIVES, THERE MUST BE SOME NEGATIVES RIGHT?

Well sure, there will always be down sides to anything… that’s life right? So let me list a few things to consider when purchasing linen clothing:

  • Linen creases.
  • Linen is more expensive than cotton.

MY CURRENT LINEN FAVOURITES:

So incase you missed my last blog post I recently shared my favourite midi dresses that I’m loving, in my wardrobe and online!

Let’s face it its nice getting all glammed up sometimes, but what if we just want to snuggle up in our favourite comfy clothes? Below I’ve listed a few of my favourite casual looks which are super snuggly and stylish, so you’ll always look good no matter what you’re wearing!

One of my favourite things to do while being at home currently, is prancing around in the cutest midi dresses. They’re so lightweight, comfortable and not to mention flattering so you’ll never have a bad day when the postman arrives!

I thought I’d share a few of my current favourites that I have been wearing recently and also some that I’m loving online at the minute…

Blazers are such a staple wardrobe piece. Whether they are your neutrals or a bright colour for those extra days… every girl needs one!

But today I’m here to talk to you guys about my white blazer, kindly gifted by Misspap and all the different ways to style it.

As you may have already seen over on my instagram, I have chosen to style this blazer with a pair of loose white trousers and a sleek hairstyle. White on white is always a winner…(unless of course your eating spaghetti bolognese, then maybe I’d suggest changing outfits haha)

WHITE BLAZER

I love the fact this blazer has a belt so it adds more detail to the complete look. Not only this but with the loose trousers it may be a little overwhelming. Adding the belt on the waistline just helps tie the outfit together.

I’ve added some items below that you could also wear with your white blazer:

  • Sequin tights
  • Cycling shorts (black or white)
  • White trousers
  • Crop tops/Bralette
  • White jeans

With this time stuck indoors, lets talk about self portraits, how to get creative and most importantly make taking photos FUN!

Steps in taking the best Self portraits:

Make sure you have a clear/neutral background –

If you don’t have a plain background indoors, not to worry! Just grab a couple white sheets from the airing cupboard, lay one across the floor and if you can find an area where you can hang the other sheet; maybe you’ve got a blind rail which you can clip it onto, or a door frame.. it really doesn’t matter, because when you’ve got it all set up you should hopefully not be able to see it in the shot anyway! (obviously if your sheets are MEGA creased, you may want to iron it out a little… I am guilty of this on a few occasions!)

This is one I created the other day:

Take a close up –

Ok so not everyone is super excited about getting up close and personal with the camera, I mean it could show off all our flaws right? Well here’s a few tips on how to create an ideal close up portrait:

Do your hair nicely – If your hairs naturally straight, maybe give it a curl so its something different for your viewers.

Put on a little eyeshadow – A close up will deffo make people appreciate the little details in your make up.

Pucker up! Add a little lipstick/gloss for a more bold look.

Find the right angle – Obviously we all have that “good side”.. well when you are closer to the camera its important to find the right angle which your most comfortable with. Trying new poses or tilting your head a little more than usual may just be that extra little step for that perfect close up.

Lighting – This is one of the most important steps in taking any photo! But when taking a close up you want it to be detailed, bright and eye catching. Making sure your photos are high quality will always be a winner to attracting more of an audience!

Jewellery – Like I said with the eyeshadow, it’s all about the little details which can really enhance your close up self portraits. Adding some earrings or a nice necklace not only will shine with your good lighting, but it adds more contrast to your photo.

Here’s an example I took the other week: (as you can see I forgot to iron this sheet, but being my first self portrait I think I’ll let this one slide…)

Be creative! Add some furniture or a cute plant:

Why not make your self portraits a little more creative?! A white sheet is more of a professional and clean looking shot, which is always a winner. But for those who like to get a little more creative here’s some things you can add to help you get all artsy:

Sit on a chair/stool – Instead of just sitting on the floor or standing in front of your set up, add a coloured chair or something that will suit your theme (one for the bloggers) to add a bit of character.

Add in a cute plant – Whether its your favourite plant pot or a few petals on the floor, this really helps with the aesthetic of your portrait.

Coffee cup/laptop – If you still want that professional look but you don’t like a plain background these are the perfect ‘props‘ for you.

Here’s a couple of examples:

Stay safe x

So as most of you lot are possibly working from the comfort of your homes during this current period, I thought why not make isolating a little more fashion inspiring. However, before I get into the world of fashion I just wanted to point out the seriousness of our current situation and how it’s so important to make sure those around you are safe and healthy, and for those whom you are unable to see to make sure you are checking in daily with a simple phone call or text, I know this is a difficult time for us all, we need to keep sane and support each other as self-isolating can be very demoralizing at times..

With all that said, let’s go through some fashion looks to keep you stylish even when your just chilling at home..

I like to keep comfy when at home, this mean’s anything from loungewear sets to baggy trousers and a cosy knit, or even a cute PJ set (as I know that’s what majority of us are living in right now!!)

Knit: New Look – unfortunately this knit is no longer available on their website – so I’ve linked a close alternative instead… (which is now in my basket! oops) https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/knitwear/off-white-cable-knit-roll-neck-crop-jumper/p/651625612?comp=Search

So we all know blazers are a statement piece right? yep, they are here for the long run.

Being only 5’2ft small and quite petite, I always use to think blazers would just swamp me every time I stuck one on over my outfit. WELL… I have found the solution! I’m here to show you how I style my blazers and feel super confident wearing them.

ACCESSORIES ARE THE KEY…

ADD A WAIST-BELT TO ANY BLAZER: NOT ONLY DOES IT MAKE YOUR LOOK MORE STYLISH BUT IT PULLS YOU IN, IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES AND FOR SMALL PEOPLE LIKE ME IT BRINGS THE BLAZER UP A BIT SO ITS NOT AS LONG.

CO-ORD: MATCHING CO-ORDS ARE VERY MUCH IN TREND RIGHT NOW, EVEN IF THE BLAZER IS A TAD ON THE LONG SIDE IT BLENDS IN WITH THE TROUSERS SO IM NOT ANXIOUS ABOUT IT SWAMPING ME AS SUCH.

BELT BAG: SO THIS IS A SIMILAR WAY TO HOW I STYLE. MY BLAZERS WITH A WAIST-BELT HOWEVER, ADDS MORE STYLE/DETAIL TO YOUR OUTFIT AND YOU CAN ALSO KEEP YOUR ESSENTIALS CLOSE… BONUS!!
